BRIEF DESCRIPTION
The LNG regasification technology ensures maximum safety levels:
- GDF SUEZ has over 40 years of experience in the field of LNG and offers itself as an operator which cares a lot about safety issues.
- GDF SUEZ's priorities: to preserve the health of people and its crew on board the ship (35/40 people).
- Prevention: the best accident prevention practices will be adopted (so as to minimize any risks of accident).
- Safety zone around the regasifier ship: Experience, research, mathematical models and, last but not least, the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report suggest that a maximum 1 km zone around the ship might be involved in any accidents, if the worst comes to the worst.
- The fixed structures (gas pipeline and measuring chamber) are conventional gas system structures in Italy, where the measuring chambers are about 8,000 and the total national gas pipeline network exceeds 35,000 km.
- The methane tankers which transport gas at ambient (atmospheric) pressure meet very high safety standards and have a double hull (no LNG releases have ever occurred in 160 million kilometers traveled).
- The authorization procedure includes a first phase, in which the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report must be examined by the competent regional and national authorities for approval, and a second phase in which the project must be confirmed after checking and testing what is detailed in the report.
